Potential summer signings: Part 2

Marouane Fellaini: No. 10 on my list (see previous post)

Who will join the likes of Sanchez and Reus on the list?

By Aaron Leggott

Yesterday saw me pick a number of European stars in the list of potential summer targets for Roberto Mancini and his backroom team, and I will now look at the top 5 targets who I believe will be the priority in Mancini's summer shopping list.

So here we go... read on for numbers five to one!

5: Mario Götze

Age: 20
Club: Dortmund
Position: Attacking midfielder
Estimated cost: £31 million

At just 20, Götze is considered as one of the greatest upcoming prospects in world football. Playing primarily as an attacking midfielder, he is also more than capable of causing trouble on the wing thanks to his pace, dribbling and creativity.

For this reason, he would cost a lot if City were to come knocking on Borussia Dortmund's door - and with the German pledging his future to the German champions just a year ago, it will take a big offer to persuade him to come to Manchester.

4: Edinson Cavani

Age: 26
Club: Napoli
Position: Striker
Estimated cost: £30 million

Possibly the cheapest option out of the potential striking options available this summer (see below) and is starting to hit his peak in terms of his football career.

He has had a brilliant season in Serie A and this is proven in the fact that he is the leagues top scorer with 20 goals so far this term. There have been strong rumours that he could be on his way to Manchester and he would be a great addition to the squad.

3: Radamel Falcao

Age: 27
Club: Atletico Madrid
Position: Striker
Estimated cost: £45 million

Considering he has to fight alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the prize of "Top Dog" in Spanish football, Falcao has had an incredible season for Atletico. He has 46 goals in 60 games for Los Rojiblancos and has become one of the most sought after players in Europe.

In reality, we will have to fight with Chelsea if we want his signature, but with Benitez's men willing to offer Fernando Torres in exchange for the Colombian, the prospect of Falcao wearing Sky Blue is not as likely as Cavani.

2: Gareth Bale

Age: 23
Club: Tottenham
Position: Winger
Estimated cost: £40 million

After AVB's decision to play Bale in a more central position, the Welsh attacker has become arguably one of the best attacking midfielders in the world at the moment, and he would be an unbelievably good addition to the City squad. We have missed someone like Bale to give us pace and width this season, so in reality he would be the perfect signing in the summer.

However, it is unlikely that Tottenham will want to sell him to their rivals and with Real Madrid showing keen interest in the Welshman, we will have to offer big money if we want him.

1: Luis Suárez

Age: 26
Club: Liverpool
Position: Striker
Estimated cost: £30 million

People might be surprised at this choice but after the season Suárez has had, I wouldn't pass up on an opportunity to bring in a striker proven in this league. He is just hitting his peak and would link up well with the likes of Aguero and Silva.

Liverpool will understandably be reluctant to sell but if they fail to get any European football next season, Suarez may be tempted by the bright lights of Champions League football.

So there you have it. Luis Suarez tops the list and I see him as one of the most likeliest players to be wearing Sky Blue come August. I think a lot people judge him on his attitude, rather than his technical ability - which puts him amongst the best strikers in the world.

Leave your comments below on who you'd bring in if you were in Mancini's shoes this summer.

  1. Suarez would be a good purchase and is more likely to come to City than Cavani or Falcao. That said Falcao's move to Chelsea is very dependent on them getting CL football ..... something they are far from being a shoe in for yet.

  2. Interesting thoughts Andy regarding Falcao. I can imagine that the only deterrent for the club would be the hefty price tag on his shoulders - something which when compared to Cavani and Suarez - is a lot to ask.

Suarez would also bring us the Premier League experience, but you can imagine Liverpool will be extremely reluctant to sell

  3. Suarez would cost way more than £30 million pounds i think it will be closer to double that
