Match Preview: Manchester City vs Liverpool

Manchester City will go into this tie without club captain Vincent Kompany, as he starts his 4 match ban after his appeal was rejected after a 'two-footed' lunge on Nani during Manchester City's 3-2 defeat to rivals Manchester United.

David Silva, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are doubts for this league cup fixture however Gareth Barry is available for selection as he returns from his suspension which he picked up last Tuesday against the same opponent. The Blue's won this fixture 3-0 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, James Milner and Yaya Toure (who won't be available due to International duty).

Liverpool will welcome back Daniel Agger, Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel to the line up after they were rested in the FA Cup tie vs Oldham. Skipper Steven Gerrard is also expected to start. Craig Bellamy could start after his goal against Oldham on Friday night. Bellamy came on as a substitue for Liverpool at The Etihad Stadium to a warm reception from the home fans, however he failed to make much of an impact in that fixture.
Andy Carroll is also expected to start due to the absence of Luis Suarez due to his 8 match ban for alledged racism against Manchester United's Patrice Evra. It has not been the best start for Liverpool in 2012, a year that has seen Suarez banned for racism, Downing arrested and also a fan arrested for racism during the Red's 5-0 FA Cup victory on Friday night.

Manchester City will look to bounce back from their FA Cup exit against United, a game which saw them lose on home soil for the first time in 31 matches.

The Blue's will go into this fixture positively though, as they have scored a massive 56 goals in the Premier League so far this season as a pose to Liverpool's 24.

Liverpool have not reached the new Wembley at all and Dalglish will relish the opportunity to visit the great stadium and win the cup that he lifted 4 ties as a player. The winner of this League Cup tie will be somewhat favorites to go on and win the trophy as a Championship opponent awaits. The game promises to be a cracker and the return leg at Anfield is one which is eagerly anticipated, as long as the tie is not wrapped up after tonights game.
