Match Preview - League Cup Semi-Final: Liverpool vs Manchester City

Manchester City go into this tie on the back of a sensational 3-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and will hope to secure their 4th Wembley visit in just 10 months.

Stefan Savic is expected to start along side Joleon Lescott as club captain Vincent Kompany serves his last game of his four game suspension. Mario Balotelli will also be suspended if the club do not choose to appeal against his four game ban, the club have until 6 o’clock tonight to choose to appeal.

Jay Spearing is an injury doubt for the home side and Dalglish is expected to make changes to his side that lost 3-2 at the Reebok over the weekend. Liverpool will also have to account for the FA Cup tie versus Manchester City’s arch rivals Manchester United which is on the horizon, and Dalglish’s team selection may differ due to the circumstances.

City, go into this tie in high spirit, having just beaten 3rd place Tottenham Hotspur 3-2. However, Liverpool are quite the opposite, having lost 3-2 at Bolton.

Progression into the League Cup final rests on Liverpool’s shoulders, and the home fans will go to Anfield with high expectations. Liverpool will be confident as they managed to put one past Joe Hart at The Etihad Stadium, whereas City managed to score none. They go into the League Cup tie as 1-0 leaders, courtesy of a Steven Gerrard penalty after Savic brought down Daniel Agger in the area.

Manchester City have not been victorious at Anfield for 9 years and the well known Merseyside stadium is a threatening one at that. Liverpool, will also be determined to reach Wembley for the first time since 1996. So hold on to your seats, this League Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool and Manchester City promises to be an absolute cracker.
