Potential summer signings: Part 1

The 10 who could be wearing Manchester City blue this summer

By Aaron Leggott

To put it lightly, last summer was a huge let down in terms of strengthening our squad, and we have paid for it as United close in on their 20th league title. Here is the first part of the ten players who I think could strengthen the squad and make their way to the Etihad Stadium this summer....

10: Marouane Fellaini

Age: 25
Club: Everton
Position: Midfielder
Estimated cost: £25 million

He has probably had his best season at Everton since joining from Standard Liege in 2008 and could be a realistic replacement for the ageing Yaya Toure.

Although he's nowhere near the level of Yaya at the moment, he could give us that presence in the air as well as the ability to burst forward from midfielder. Everton will be reluctant to sell him though and will cost a lot if Mancini wants him.

9: Mats Hummels

 Age: 24
 Club: Borussia Dortmund
 Position: Centre back
 Estimated cost: £15 million

A product of Bayern Munich's academy, Hummels  has come on leaps and bounds in the past year or two and was a key cog in the Dortmund side that  claimed back to back Bundesliga titles.

He has created a great partnership with Nevan Subotic and is now recognised as one of the best defenders in Europe. His quality in tackling, positioning and composure led Dortmund to offer him a new deal last June until 2017, so it will take a hefty offer to prize the German away from Dortmund. Would be a great addition if Mancini was keen on trying three at the back next season.

8: Alexis Sanchez

Age: 24
Club: FC Barcelona
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Estimated cost: £26 million

As you all might remember, Mancini actually made an attempt to sign the Chilean midfielder when he was the hottest product in Europe a couple of years back.

However, he opted to move to Barcelona and in all honesty, it hasn't worked out brilliantly. He has 14 goals in 46 games for the Catalan giants and is known for his direct approach going forward. This transfer is a possibility, but it all depends on whether Mancini will go back for a player who snubbed us.

7: Isco

Age: 20
Club: Malaga
Position: Attacking midfielder
Estimated cost: £30 million (Buy out clause)

This kid is definitely one to watch in the future. He is only 20 and is part of a Malaga side who has exceeded expectations in the Champions League this year.

However, having signed a new contract just a few months ago, it is extremely unlikely that City will go for him with a buy out clause of £30 million. It is worth noting that with Malaga's current financial difficulties, a lower offer could possibly be accepted, but I believe there are bigger targets out there.

6: Marco Reus

Age: 23
Club: Dortmund
Position: Attacking midfielder
Estimated cost: £26 million

Like Isco, Reus is a player whose potential excites me. When talking about Reus, Franz Beckenbauer said: "as a classic duo there is nobody better than the prolific Reus and Gotze."

This says everything you need to know about him. He joined Dortmund this season and has already cemented himself as one of Dortmund's key players this season, contributing 11 goals in 27 games. He would funnily be one of the cheaper options if City were looking to add an attacking midfielder to the side next season when compared to other options - but Dortmund would be reluctant to part ways with the young attacker.

  1. Would take the Dortmund duo. Fellaini probably has his best season behind him and I wouldn't want City to get in another war of words with Everton that would likely motivate them for another ten years of 'cup finals'. Sanchez is a possibility for width. Isco .... not at £30 million.
