Match Preview: Chelsea vs Manchester City

City looking to grab yet another away win

By Rebecca Halliwell

Sunday afternoon sees two of the best teams in the Premier League set to pit their wits - with Manchester City heading south to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. This is looking to be an exciting match with Chelsea on a good run of form while City will be looking for three points to keep them near the top of the table.

The Blues played well in midweek with Manuel Pellegrini again deciding to opt with Sergio Agüero and Álvaro Negredo as his striking duo. Sergio scored his second brace in as many matches and with the two players on good form, will Pellegrini select them to play against Chelsea?

Agüero has scored eight goals in six games and will be hoping to continue his run of goals. In recent matches we have seen Negredo and Agüero’s partnership work as well as Agüero's and Tevez’s last season.

Manchester City’s away record appears to be improving having beaten West Ham and CSKA Moscow in the last week.

David Silva has appeared to be on good form since his return having scored and set up goals, whilst Samir Nasri has shown some form that we rarely saw last season and the amount of criticism of Joe Hart seems to have reduced.

Chelsea have won four and drawn one of their last five matches both in the Premier League and Champions League. Their away win against Schalke 04 midweek saw Fernando Torres make his 100th appearance for his club, scoring two goals as well as Eden Hazard - Chelsea’s second highest goal scorer in all competitions - add to his tally.

Eden Hazard has said that he believes that City could be much tougher opposition with Vincent Kompany in the City side and would rather play with him than against him. It has been reported that Kompany won’t play tomorrow and it is unlikely that Martin Demichelis will travel either.

Chelsea need at least a draw to stay ahead of City in the league but will be looking for a win with both Arsenal and Liverpool grabbing wins this afternoon.

Below are highlights from the previous competitive meeting between the two sides, which saw City come out victorious in a 2-1 win at Wembley in the FA Cup semi final.

My thoughts

Manchester City need to win to stay within three points of Arsenal. City’s form has looked good in recent matches. I think that Pellegrini will start with Silva and Navas as left and right midfielders and Agüero and Negredo up front.

Prediction: Chelsea 2 - 3 City
